A CALL TO ACTION!
Disinformation
If I have any ideology it would have to be Libertarianism. But even with that I do not tow the party line in that I believe it was necessary to attack Iraq. Most Libertarians think we should only attack countries which directly attacked us. As I have tried to point out though, Iraq (I believe and think I can prove) has attacked us within the US on several occasions. Anyway, whenever you challenge some ones pet beliefs you are bound to get them upset and face their criticism. Fair enough! I try to keep my critiques on a non personal level, but when others feel threatened they usually resort to such attacks. Today’s (May 25, 2006) letter to the Editor in the HJ by Bill Jensen is such an example. He first starts out by putting words in my mouth. I find this one of the most frustrating things about people. Perhaps it is an indictment against our educational system, in that they seem unable to keep to the facts but must either make things up or misrepresent what has been written. He states that I accused Thad Box of disloyalty. To me whenever this happens it indicates that one is not dealing with a totally rational person.
In the next paragraph he states that I did not list any sources for the documents from which I quoted. This is not entirely true in that I did mention both the Journal of Foreign Affairs and a book complied by the Pentagon which has been declassified. As for the other documents these are available on the net (in the original form which is Arabic). Trying to counter the incredible amount of disinformation put out by the Major Media is impossible, especially when the HJ will not give me adequate space. They seem very comfortable though with having the so called conservative columnists babble on about trivial things like “dickering.” To me this is a sure sign of the evil which has permeated this country. Brainwashing if you will is a very deadly thing. When leftists have control of the vast majority of our informational systems nothing good can come from this!
Mr. Jensen then goes on to make a number of unsupported claims or just plain untruths.
1) “…in his state of the union address, Bush (note not President Bush) stated unequivocally that Saddam was importing Uranium from Niger in an attempt to develop nuclear weapons.” This is highly inaccurate! What was stated was that British intelligence has claimed that Iraq has tried to import uranium from Niger. British intelligence still stands by this claim and states that it is supported by several different sources. Furthermore in their investigation about intelligence matters leading up to the war the Butler report fully supports this claim. Mr. Jensen seems also unaware (quite understandably) that both the Robb/Silverman and Senate Bi-Partisan intelligence committee (available on the net) found no evidence that the Bush Administration altered intelligence in any way to support invading Iraq. Unfortunately, if you repeat a lie enough times, people will believe it.
2) He then brings up the famous aluminum tubes. Now remember, what President Bush was quoting from was the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE). This document was compiled by all of the intelligence branches within the US government. While there was some minor bickering, the official document clearly claimed that these tubes where for uranium purification. They might have been wrong, but that was the conclusion from the entire intelligence community. The Bush Administration did not write this document, only relied upon it.
3) Then he brings up the so called Wilson/Plame affair. I have written previous about this (see the so called Plame Affair) and will not go into this further.
4) In the same sentence he dismisses the entire Iraqi history of trying to acquire nuclear weapons. Their attempt to acquire nuclear weapons is a very long story going back to the building of the Osaris nuclear reactor (supplied by France) which the Israelis destroyed (thank God)! He shows complete ignorance regarding years and years of lying, falsifying documents, numerous attempts to hide their programs from the UN inspectors, etc. This is probably the greatest attempt by the Leftist community to rewrite history. They act like Iraq was a choirboy state minding its own business when the big bully America invaded them for no good reason. Not the country which invaded Iran (without provocation) leading to at least one million deaths, used chemical weapons on its own citizenry and invaded Kuwait (again without provocation) and murdered thousands of Kuwait citizens. There are an incredible number of quotes from just about any Democratic leader where they state the Iraq was the greatest threat posed to the US.
5) Another claim he makes is that the mobile laboratory which Collin Powell referred to have proven to be false. While this matter is still being debated, I believe that the evidence shows that these could have been only used for biological weapons development. There are numerous articles available on the net which delve into this issue and I will not go into this further.
6) So much for his claim that “all of this was fabrication.”
7) I have written before about the large amount of intelligence provided by the Israeli’s and people within the US intelligence community as well as Iraqi’s themselves that mass amounts of material were transported to Syria in the six months leading up to the war. Unfortunately, if you rely on the Major Media for all of your information or even worse more leftist sources like “The Nation” etc. you would never know about all of this.
I hope I have dealt with most of his claims regarding my last letter to the Editor of the HJ. One has to do ones homework if one is trying to find out the truth because neither the Major Media nor the Bush Administration has done a very good job of uncovering the facts. This last part (while obvious to an uninterested observer) seems to escaped Mr. Jensen and might be the saddest statement of all regarding our nation and government.
